About the Author
Dolly Kyle, childhood friend of Bill Clinton, never expected to be dragged into a national controversy. She knew the truth about the co-presidents Bill and Hillary Clinton; she never changed her story about the affair that made her privy to behind-the-scenes information; and she was not afraid to testify. After graduating from SMU School of Law, Dolly practiced real estate law in Texas, where she was named a fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation for outstanding contributions to the administration of justice. That honor was limited to one-third of 1 percent of Texas lawyers. Dolly was the founder and executive director of Lawyers for Affordable Housing that provided pro bono legal services for low-income homeowners and for non-profit housing groups such as Habitat for Humanity. She was also a founding member of the Dallas Affordable Housing Partnership and Dallas City Homes. She is currently turning some of her housing experiences in Dallas into her fourth novel.

I can vouch for the authenticity of "Hillary The Other Woman." I lived in Hot Springs, Arkansas from the year Dolly and I were born--1948--until I moved to North Carolina in 1997. I was closely connected to the Clinton's political history because I was a very active part of the turbulent local elected political system--being a School Board Member, an Alderman, an At-Large City Director, a State Comissioner and a Mayor of Hot Springs from 1979 through 1994.

I thought I knew most everything there was to know about Bill and Hillary Clinton. Well!!! Dolly Kyle really surprised me with the amazing amount of undisclosed information, her vibrant and richly detailed memory, a real "Southern Belle" sass and an iron spine softened with well-bred proper social manners. She has revealed all--supported by her facts and evidence which has withstood the legal system and Congressional inquiry into her relationship with both the Clinton's and numerous other people named, discussed and quoted in her memoir. This is the woman who David Maraniss should have talked with when he was researching his landmark 1995 biography on Bill Clinton--"First in his Class". If he had made contact with her, I believe the tone and texture of his amazing book would have been dramatically different.

Thus, Dolly's engrossing book--her analysis, opinions, commentary and conclusions as a trained lawyer, her life experiences as a brilliant but emotionally damaged woman who is a rape survivor, a loving mother and a clear-eyed citizen with a deep well of conscience-- is an important read and should be thoughtfully considered before casting your vote in November, 2016. Being the same age and from the same area as Bill Clinton, I remember hearing all the rumors, watching the conflicted reactions from the public, listening to the endless promises for a better tomorrow. HILLARY THE OTHER WOMAN is a book about much of America’s soul during our lifetime.
We love the image of the fictional small town, good-ole-boy who understands us, feels our pain and will speak for us. We can admire the stand-by-your-man, strong woman who will fight and defend the family. We want to believe and we forgive because boys will be boys, and we are seduced by promises and requests for forgiveness.
Put preconceived opinions away as you read this Political Memoir. The Clinton world began with Billy and Dolly; Hillary enters and we are invited into the creation of today's political dynasty. Each of the three began with great promise and vast abilities, but each person had many deep flaws that became self-destructive. Time brought some changes to each, but the question facing the reader today is not about the past triangle, it is about our future.
The history of HILLARY THE OTHER WOMAN would not be important except we are now being asked to “just trust me” one more time, to look at the record and believe one more time. It is time we seriously take a look at the record, ask questions and demand why so much of the record has become smoke and “what difference does it make.”
Who is the real Hillary? It’s past time we required an answer and not just a self-serving comment changing the subject.
Who are we in 2016? Are we still the America that looks for promises, hope, a better tomorrow or have we become cynical with a what difference does it make attitude? An epic biography that never loses interest

As a school child, I learnt of Helen Keller as a woman who struggled with blindness and deafness to become famous. Though I have always been curious of people with physical disabilities, something I can now attribute to Asperger's Syndrome making me inherently violent and self-centred, apart from knowing about the Braille alphabet (which she did not invent) it was not until relatively recently that I have become really curious about who Helen Keller was and what she did.

The size of "Helen and Teacher: The Story of Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan Macy" makes it look far from easy reading, but in fact the language all through from the beginning of Anne's life right to the last days when Helen was an aging celebrity is never dry or dull. Nonetheless, the amount of detail is superb and will offer surprises to the reader even after a number of reads. The early part of "Helen and Teacher" deals with the colourful life of Anne Sullivan Macy before she met Helen, and it surprises even me to find out how troubled a person she was. In some ways the story reminds one of what I have read about Margaret Sanger in her fierce struggle against repressive religious control to do work with the disadvantaged. The fever which caused Helen Keller's blindness and deafness, and the general character of her family and childhood, are rather more mundane but are described very well, especially in terms of how Helen's father, a veteran of the American Civil War, required considerable knowledge of famus people to be able to help her after she become blind and deaf.

After that comes the body of "Helen and Teacher" showing how Anne Sullivan Macy helped Helen Keller to first communicate and then become a celebrity for her work as a writer and with later generations of blind and deaf people. The whole of this section is full of quotations that add perfectly to the text though showing exactly how Helen Keller developed her ability to write and speak, and how by the time she was a teenager Helen was already a prolific letter-writer, which led to her classic The Story of My Life and to many later less famous writings. In the process Joseph Lash does not fail to cover any significant person in Helen Keller's life and looks equivocally at the problems as well as the highlights of Keller's transformation into a celebrity and later into a political radical. The difficulties Anne faced with her marriage are also done very well and the number of quotes from observers who directly knew Helen and Anne only increases as one progresses through the book.

The last half of the book deals with Helen's later life when she turned from a writing celebrity and political activist (there is one scathing criticism of Theodore Roosevelt on page 417 that ought to be noted by his modern critics like Thomas Woods), and to campaigning for the blind, which was her most important occupation for the last half of her life. The very last part, "Helen without Teacher" is somewhat less interesting though still very dense and dramatic.

In addition to the text and copious quotes, "Helen and Teacher: The Story of Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan Macy" contains beautiful pictures that are an attraction of themselves. Though the images of Helen and Anne are at times repetitive, the surroundings more than make up for this problem even with all images being black and white.

As a biography of one of the most remarkable - and famous - American women, "Helen and Teacher: The Story of Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan Macy" is a must-read that will surprise the reader even after having several good looks. It may not be easy to read in one or even a few settings, but nonetheless any small reading will reveal a greta deal of interest.

I just get it. She speaks my language.

I am 59 years old and have just lost everything I own. I am starting again with such faith and confidence, which is very different to how I was before I read this book. She has literally saved me and set me on a new wondrous voyage. I have lived my life, brought up a daughter from a a very young age, had many long term relationships, been battered emotionally by life, yet I survived through sheer grit and determination never taking the time to look deep to heal wounds and to set boundries. The recession in South Africa over the last 3 years affected my business and I made some pretty stupid decisions and got involved with the wrong people. After a protracted court case which I won, the company went into voluntary liquidation which meant I lost everything. Because I know and believe that I am in exactly the right place at the right time, I looked very deeply at what caused this situation and why. It started with me and ends with me. What lessons I learned! I wake every morning with a prayer on my lips, energy to get through the day regardless of banks and creditors phoning me. Marianne, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for reminding me that God is my partner, that I am protected and that things can change in an instant when I ask. In these difficult economic times Marianne Williamson's new book, "The Law of Divine Compensation: On Work, Money, and Miracles" is a refreshing reminder that God's love is the true source of our abundance.

"Finance is just one of many areas where an increasingly obsolete, materially based worldview is proving to be inadequate to the challenges of the times in which we live," Williamson writes in the preface of her book. The author's message of God's unconditional love trumping worldly possessions resonated with me. I found myself underlying passages in page after page for future reference (the most words I've highlighted in any book I've read this year).

Williamson is not preaching to us from the mountain top. Similar to her writing style in other books, she is very vulnerable with her own struggles - this time in the financial realm. In "Divine Compensation" she tells a story of how she lost $10,000 early in her speaking career due to poor event planning. "Oh Daddy," she recalls telling her father, "It was such a bomb!" Williamson describes how this personal misfortune taught her a lesson. After consoling words from her father, she relates how she chose to think about this incident was the key to transforming it to positive experience. She could either see it "as proof of utter failure and doom or as an opportunity to forgive myself and attract a miracle." Williamson, in being open with her own shortcomings, gives the reader a sense of being counseled by a friend, rather than being lectured at by a "know it all" spiritual guru.

I wasn't expecting to read about the value of forgiveness in a book about work and money, but according to Williamson a forgiving spirit is essential in attracting our own good. "The universe knows if you were hurt and is already on the case to make right whatever wrong occurred," she writes. "Your anger, if it lingers, throws a wrench in the machine of the miraculous universe." In her view, "no deviation from love - on your part or anyone else's - can keep the universe from its divine intention that your life be one of fullness and joy."

I also liked the prayers Williamson included in the book. Prayers to transform the reader's consciousness. Can you relate to this one as I did?:

"Dear God, I feel myself falling into the hole of self-pity, self-obsession, and negativity.
I know I shouldn't think this way, but I'm afraid and I cannot stop. Please replace my thoughts with Yours, dear God. I am willing to see myself and all things differently. Please send me the miracle of new eyes and ears, that I might know my greater good. Amen."

I copied this and other prayers from the book and plan refer to them often during my own times of doubt and struggle.

"The Law of Divine Compensation" is the best book from Marianne Williamson I have ever read (and I have read a few, including her landmark work "Return To Love"). "You are not merely a being of the material world; you are a being of unlimited spirit," she writes. "And in spirit there is no lack. You are not lacking, just because your circumstances are." Williamson's message of God's love being our true source of fulfillment was a comfort to me, and I think it will be to you, too.

Life changing!

Over the course of reading this book (only a few days because I couldn't put it down!), I've witnessed not only a change in my thoughts and attitude, but also an improvement in my circumstances already! I've been out of work for 6 months, forced out due to debilitating depression and anxiety caused by an insane workload and toxic environment. I had to give up what I had once thought was the job of my dreams, with a great paycheck to boot, and have been deeply struggling to heal and get back on my feet. Finally feeling well enough now to jump back up on the work horse, the fear of not knowing where I'm going or what I'm supposed to do has been looming over my head. The tedious and grueling task of applying and interviewing for jobs, waiting for good news but only getting rejections, will make most people doubt themselves and feel like there's no light at the end of the tunnel. On top of it, I have a massive amount of debt that I cannot pay--it's a struggle just to get the rent paid and keep a roof over my head. The pressure and stress has been eating me alive. Thankfully, in doing much self-help reading to improve my illness as well as continue my ongoing spiritual development, I came across this book. After the first night of reading and applying the mindfulness strategies, I woke up to a voicemail from a prospective employer! I continued to read and apply--the next day I had more voicemails and a bunch of e-mails! I'm amazed at how quickly the universe responded to my diligent prayers and meditation--not because I didn't believe, just simply in awe of the miracles unfolding before me! I know that my life has so much potential, and I know that God directed me to this book. What a blessing!
