Very nice. Muy claro. Ya compre cuartro de este libro para mis estudiantes reciente llegados de Guatemala. Los ejemplos son buenos, y la grammatica es muy completa. No es un libro para el flojero, es libro para lo que quiere saber bien el ingles. Si quieres no mas de frases sencillas con dibujos, no es su libro, pero si quiere saber el ingles en total en una forma muy bien organizada, esto es para usted.

Life with him would be easy, and Ashley likes things to be easy.

Bennett Saegar has a bad habit of making his life harder than it needs to be. Trying to make it as a Hollywood screenwriter is hard enough, but when a movie star stages a very public suicide attempt over unrequited love for him, the media frenzy is so bad he needs a place to hide out. Luckily, the pool house is free on the property of his family friends, the Carnarvons. He’ll be out of sight and able to concentrate on his next screenplay. Best of all, he’ll be far away from women.

When he moves into the pool house, the first person he sees is Ashley Carnarvon. Ashley who had a world class crush on him ten years earlier. Now, she’s all grown up and something about her pulls at him. Good thing she’s engaged, or she could be a serious distraction. Then, Ben meets her fiancé and realizes this guy is all wrong for Ashley. She’s got so much more potential than she realizes. He wishes he knew how to show her how special she is without anyone getting the wrong idea about his intentions. Especially him.

Ashely gets a hand me down gown....

This is Book 2 in the series of the "dress". They are stand alone books. It is more fun to read in order but you don't have to. Loved it. The dress has been passed down to a poor relative!!! Thus the second hand bride. The first bride didn't quite make it to the altar in the dress but she didn't want anything to do with it. So, when the aunt and uncle that allows the "bride" and her mother to live on the pr4operty give her the dress as a gift she is sort of stuck with it.

This poor girl has not had the best luck. Problems with the parents not marrying and then no support for the mother so she has to live on the goodwill of her brother. For 10 years she has been in a friends with benefits with a neighbor (also wealthy) that she went to school with. There is not a lot of actual love involved, mostly just sexual in nature. So, when he out of the blue proposes to her she accepts because there is really no better offer on the table and why not. There are some strange goings on as the adults all get involved in making this wedding happen as soon as possible. And no, she is not pregnant.

Then comes Ben. At 16 she knew she would love Ben forever however, being a couple of years older he didn't really get that excited about her crush. Well, now she is older and looks it and he is taking a second look. she is engaged but the groom to be seems a little weird in his actions, etc. towards her. She is wondering if she is making a mistake.

Then a bomb goes off and all plans are up in the air. It is fun to see where this goes and what happens to the dress. does she wear it and walk down the aisle? or what? I really enjoyed this story. At first I didn't really care for the heroine, Ashley. But as the story goes on and you get to know her and see that some things that were assumed are not really true the opinion changes. I definitely recommend this second installment of the "traveling dress". I am anxious to see where it goes next and how it gets there. A fun read.

I have really enjoyed this quirky, short story series so far (this is book 2). The premise is a that a designer wedding dress has been cursed and the brides don't end out getting married. This h finds herself engaged to her friend with benefits in a very quick and surprising way. The h is the original poor relation and is always treated like a doormat. The H arrives back on the scene after 10 years of not being around. He is a successful screenplay writer but is hiding out after a stalker actress attempted to commit suicide when he spurned her advances. He hides out in the pool house on the property where the h is living in a cottage. She had a crush on the H as a teenager but now she's all grown up and getting married. The H sees that the marriage would be all wrong for her, he wants to help her but he doesn't want to get involved in a relationship. It's a cute short story and I can't wait for the next one.

Every now and then, a gem comes along and it is just what the doctored ordered. “Secondhand Bride” is Book Two in the Almost Wives Club Series and is interconnected, but can be read as a standalone. As a side note, I didn’t read the first book and could easily follow the plot. I will, however, now read Book One.
Ashley Carnarvon is used to being second best. Along with her mother, she lives on the estate of wealthier, illustrious relatives, receiving a judgmental form of charity that is enough to get them by, but not enough to let them prosper.
Her friends with benefits of the last ten years, Eric Van Hoffendam, is the man-child, ne’er do well son of a powerful and illustrious family, one that equals her relatives. One night, Eric proposes and to Ashley’s surprise, she, the outsider, is welcomed into both families with open arms.
The pending nuptials set in motion a chain of events: the speed, the disinterest of her fiancé, the domineering attitudes of her aunt, uncle, and her future mother-in-law, but most importantly, the dress. Ashley is given a hand-me-down wedding dress that may or may not be cursed.
Enter Bennett Saegar: Ashley’s teenage crush and a family friend of the Carnarvons. Now a famous scriptwriter, Ben is fleeing from problems of his own. Hiding out, he winds up at the estate Ashley lives on and finds ten years alters your perspective.
This book is a funny, witty, quirky, feel-good story about women who undervalue themselves and the people who don’t deserve them. Both of the main leads were likeble, lovable, and relatable.
There are a few minor editorial issues in this work: typographical errors and consistency where Ashley is described as the daughter of her uncle and not the niece.
If you are looking for stories that lift your spirits and cheer for the under-dog, this is the series for you. I read this book in one sitting and Nancy Warren is now one of my go-to authors to make me feel good.

About the Author
Lorenzo Candelaria (Bachelor of Music, Oberlin College, 1995; Ph.D., Yale University, 2001) is an award-winning teacher and author at The University of Texas at Austin, Butler School of Music. He is the recipient of prestigious fellowships from the Fulbright Program and the National Endowment for the Humanities and was presented with the Robert M. Stevenson Award by the American Musicological Society for his book THE ROSARY CANTORAL (2008).

Good Survey of American Music

I teach a course in United States music history at the high school level, and this college text is a good stretch for my students. It is clearly written, well organized, and provides great points for departure in my lectures. The accompanying CD set, though not perfect, is a convenient way to bring in examples and allows for some independent study. Music history teachers can augment the examples with their current CD holdings.
The text surveys "American" music, not just music of the United States, although that is in the majority. The distinction of American versus U.S makes for a good discussion point throughout the semester. We do not take the chapters in order (we begin with music of the early European settlers), and the book lends itself to that flexibility.
Although there may be better texts for specific music history topics, (i.e., Jazz or contemporary "serious" music) this is an excellent survey text for the advanced high schooler or college music history survey course. I ordered this book for my college class, and thought it had the CDs. It doesn't. I spent a lot of money for being "just" the book.

Uneven in its weight to genres of music

This is a concise edition of Daniel Kingman's previous book of the same title. I know of it having been used as a high school textbook on American Music.

Kingman's book begins with a great introduction of some of the various ethnic/folk musics of the American musical tradition: Anglo-American, African-American, American Indian, and Latino backgrounds. Part Two looks at music which germinated from the South-Country, Blues, and Rock. Other sections examine popular sacred music, secular music, jazz, a substantial section on classical music, and a small epilogue on other regional styles.

This text is good because it is not too difficult to read and interesting overall. Kingman does a good job of introducing the music and providing useful descriptions of each style.

His bibliographies at the end of each chapter are fantastic, and he also provides many useful project ideas which would work great for high school/college classes alike

Unfortunately, there are a host of problems. First, the section on jazz is too short (30 pages), as well as those on rock (25 pages) and musical theater (20 pages). Kingman also neglects to put each movement in its proper historical context. This does not seem to be an important goal for him.

Many courses teach either American Popular Music or American Art/Classical music, not both. There are better texts out there which are more specific. For a survey course on all American music, this can work, but will certainly need to be supplemented with primary source materials and information on jazz, rock, Broadway, and other areas.

A well designed and thorough book!

A phenomenally written book which is very well designed in its approach to delivering a lot of valuable and useful information on the topics in a very organized and thorough manner of delivery in the written word and graphics flow. From previous reviews it was clear that this book and relate editions were of the highest quality publications, however, I can say with personal certainty that it is not at all a disappointment and would recommend to anyone for EMS education and learning.

Galapagos aint half bad!

I'm really surprised to see so many people who consider Galapagos to be one of Vonnegut's worst novels. I love his work and I've read many others... I have to say Galapagos is one of my favorites. On the surface, the unconventional style is great. It's told from a million years in the future, with events revealed in non-cronological order. This nonlinear storytelling really drives home Vonnegut's philosophies about the meaninglessness of time (as in Slaughterhouse Five and Sirens of Titan, for example). Also, the grandiose nature of his plot is great. The end of the world and the human race as we know it... typical Vonnegut, but still good stuff. Above all, this book is very funny. As in his other books, he treats such serious matters as war and death lightly. This underlying irony is very present in Galapagos. However, Galapagos is by no means a "light" book. The subtlest twinge of sadness peeks through all of the humor -- just enough sadness to leave an impact. On another level, Galapagos is great for its concept. The human race is only screwing itself over, and it's about time it starts going backwards again. The pessimism of it all is delightful, yet rings true. My one gripe with Galapagos is its weak character development. In a way this is OK, as it reinforces the message of the human race as a lost cause. However, it would have been nice to have someone, anyone, to sympathize with. But in the end Galapagos is interesting, funny, unconventional, and just a great read.

People Still Laugh

"And people still laugh about as much as they ever did, despite their shrunken brains. If a bunch of them are lying around on a beach, and one of them farts, everybody else around laughs and laughs, just as people would have done a million years ago."

Galapagos was the very first Kurt Vonnegut book that I ever read- serendipity saw me come across it at the school library when I was thirteen years old. Thirteen years later I don't think a more glorious introduction could have been made.

You know what is going to happen right from the beginning, the ghost of Leon Trout (son of fictitious sci-fi author Kilgore Trout) has no qualms about informing you of how, a million years in the future (well, 999,980 if you consider that most of the events were meant to have taken place in 1986), the Laws of Natural Section have seen human beings evolve, their Big Brains shrinking and their bodies adapting to a life of fishing and copulation on the Galapagos Archipelago. The tale that follows then is the story of how `modern' humans came to be, the chronicle of the few passengers who stole away from a dying planet on the Bahia de Darwin and found themselves stranded on a volcanic rock for the remainder of their lives and thus making them the Adam and Eves of a new world where children are furry and have flippers.

It isn't just about Natural Selection, but an array of other subjects that are too far reaching to go into now, but would make it an enjoyable book to study further. He does make it clear that we don't fit into this world and we are destroying it, that our big brains cause most of the problems in the world and it would be much easier if we evolved to the same level as the animals that surround us.

I have very little knowledge about the life that Vonnegut has lead which makes me uncomfortable trying to establish what he was trying to say about incestuous relationships but what I do know now after rereading it is that this was one of those dark, poignant books that has had an obvious impact on my thought processes. He makes some brilliant points about war, money, fame, religion, sex, politics and the meaning of life. Which he succeeds in not giving an answer to. Sometimes though it felt like he was skimming over some really great story points in favour of presenting his point of view.

Darkly comic, a little sad and thought provoking- I'd read it again, in another ten years.

An author that grows on you....

Vonnegut is an author that really grows on me. Galapagos is the latest novel that I've read, and (like the rest of his) immediately becomes my favorite.
The premise of the book is that humanity is going to make an enormous change of genetic course due in part to it's own stupidity. The onion is peeled, and the story reveals more about the problems in humanity while following the story of the future common parents of mankind.
The book maintains several consistencies with Vonnegut's other works:
- A witty style that covers sharp criticism. (Like they've said of Twain, "They'd hang him if they thought he was serious")
- A satire that's sometimes obvious, but sometimes hiding behind the story.
- Cameos by characters from his other books.
- A solid criticism of modern societyu

A useless rehash of Calculus formulas. Save your money and move along... nothing to see here.

This booklet is a pathetic excuse for selling info which can be found inside the front/rear cover of any Calculus & Trig textbook.

Out of 200+ total pages... only 35 pages are devoted to 'Electrical Engineering', and that info is quite trivial for any EE/student.

That's right, MOST of this pocket book is nothing more than a rehash of Integral/Differential Calculus and Trig identities!

Frankly, I'm not sure how this thing made it past the editors at CRC and into print. Someone hoodwinked somebody.

Save your money and look elsewhere for a worthwhile and -practical- book of formulae. This thing is a JOKE.

About the Author
Curt L. Lox, Ph.D., is a professor of and chair in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Education at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. His research is focused on the psychological impact of exercise for special populations, including the elderly, overweight and obese children and adults, and individuals infected with HIV. His articles have been published in the Journal of Sport & Exercise Psychology, Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, Journal of Cognitive Rehabilitation, International Journal of Behavioral Medicine, Journal of Health Psychology, and Rehabilitation Psychology, among others. He has coached at the youth and high school levels and continues to serve as a sport psychology consultant to players and coaches at the interscholastic, intercollegiate, and professional levels in the greater St. Louis area.

Kathleen A. Martin Ginis, Ph.D. (University of Waterloo), is a professor of Health and Exercise Psychology at McMaster University's Department of Kinesiology. Her research program focuses on psychosocial influences and consequences of physical activity participation. She has a particular interest in physical activity promotion among people living with spinal cord injury. Martin Ginis received her Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo in 1996 and completed postdoctoral training at Wake Forest University. She has been the recipient of several awards, including the Early Distinguished Career Award from the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity and a New Investigator Award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. She has published more than 100 articles in journals such as Health Psychology, Journal of Sport & Exercise Psychology, Annals of Behavioral Medicine, and Rehabilitation Psychology, and her work has been featured in publications such as "O" The Oprah Magazine, Men s Health & Fitness, and Shape, among others.

Steven J. Petruzzello, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Departments of Kinesiology and Community Health at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He conducts research in the area of exercise psychology, particularly from a psychophysiological perspective. This roles involves the examination of the role of exercise, encapsulated along a physical activity continuum ranging from low-to-moderate forms of exercise (e.g., walking, cycling) to vigorous exercise (e.g., competitive swimming, running) and physical activity performed in extreme environments (e.g., firefighting), on a variety of psychological outcomes, including basic affect, fatigue/energy, anxiety, and depression. He is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and a member of the Society for Psychophysiological Research, the American Psychological Society, and the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity. His articles have appeared in Sports Medicine, the Journal of Sport and Sport Psychology, Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, and Psychophysiology, among others.

Surprsingly fun to read!

This textbook is currently required for KINES 3360 at the University of Utah, and that is why I purchased it. I tend to skim textbooks, but this one is such a delight. I am honestly surprised at how the authors created a textbook for such a specific class that branches out so far. It contains hints of sociology, psychology, evolutionary science, exercise science, and of course chemistry, biology, and physics. It is geared toward students who have a background in science, but it isn't overwhelming with the science jargon. It really is interesting to read.

The graphics in the textbook are appropriate, the diction is solid, and there is enough margin space for personal notes (huge plus for me). There are TONS of studies that are cited in thi textbook that are fascinating, and the authors cover some in further detail. If there is anyone interested in the inner workings of how psychology and exercise relate to each other, this is a phenomenal starting point.

Children's singer-songwriter Harley expands his picture-book oeuvre, which includes Sitting Down to Eat (1996) and Bear's All-Night Party (2001), with a humorous variation on a time-honored seasonal theme. Harley doesn't introduce a real story line but mines crowd-pleasing comedy from a boy's invented letters to Santa, which are full of references to familiar Christmas situations (wishes for wildly improbable presents; defensive explanations for behavioral slipups). Young readers caught up in their own holiday expectations will enjoy reading between the lines of the letters and find ample humor in Alley's cartoonlike watercolor vignettes exposing the truth behind many of the boy's avowals, particularly with regard to his treatment of his little sister. Despite a conclusion that will leave readers wanting more, this droll set piece neatly captures kids' giddy anticipation leading up to Christmas morning. About the Author

Dubbed "the Mark Twain of contemporary kids' music" by Entertainment Weekly, singer, songwriter, and storyteller Bill Harley has entertained children and their parents for more than twenty years as an award-winning performer and a commentator for NPR's All Things Considered. In addition to recording many award-winning albums for kids, he is also the author of Dear Santa: The Letters of James B. Dobbins, illustrated by R. W. Alley.

Mr. Harley performs onstage around the country and lives in Massachusetts. A version of this tale appears on his Grammy Award-winning album Blah Blah Blah: Stories about Clams, Swamp Monsters, Pirates & Dogs.

You, and Your Child, Will Love This Book

If you would like your child to be entertained while he/she learns a valuable lesson of What It Is All About, this is the book for you. To the naysayers who will hold up their hands in horror that this is a book about Santa, all I can say is that somehow, without your ever having read it, you've missed it. It is not a book about Santa; it is a book about the true, original, one-and-only Theme of Christmas.

I read this to my second grade class and they absolutely loved it. I had to buy it and plan on reading it to my 6th graders. I think they'll appreciate the humor even more! Great holiday book!
